James 3:17 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.

We at CEFM believe that leading and running a business according to timeless Biblical principles – as stewards, servant leaders and ambassadors for Christ – is quite compatible with achieving topnotch accomplishment. Head-to-head business performance comparisons* of Biblically-principled companies against leading American blue chip companies show that the Biblically-principled companies historically and quite dramatically outperform blue chip companies in sales and profit growth, two financial drivers of company value.

What Does it Mean to be Biblically Responsible?

Some would call it the Protestant work-ethic where, according to Max Weber, a German sociologist, economist, and politician in The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism (1904/05), an individual was culturally or religiously compelled to follow a secular vocation with as much zeal as possible. Thus, Weber argued, a person living according to this world view was more likely to accumulate money. Weber further posited that this ethic paved the way for modern capitalism.

Being Biblically responsible encompasses significantly more than an economically-driven attitude of working hard to pursue wealth. Rather, it stems from having the paramount goal of devoting all of one’s essence to doing everything, including managing an investment fund, to the best of one’s ability as unto the LORD God in order to please Him.

Therefore, the ethic of working harder or smarter is simply a consequential, though important, component of being Biblically responsible. It is only through purposeful actions and behaviors brought about by being in conformance to ‘wisdom from above’ and obedience to the whole of Scriptural guidance that ‘Biblically Responsible Fund Management’ even has a chance of happening.

The ultimate aim of CEFM is to honor and glorify God in all that we do. All secular results are incidental blessings.
